El Huayna Potosí

Hello everybody,

A short history about me reaching out for the sky.

I signed in for a 3-day trek up to 6088m.
The first day we drove up to 4750m and did some practice with the snowboots, clamp-ons and ice picks. We also learned how to ice-climb.
The second day we hiked up to 5200m, this was relative easy, there was no snow yet and the track was pretty clear.
The third day we woke up at 1AM to start the big climb. A snickers as breakfast and afterwards we started to walk; with the clamp-ons, in the snow!
We could see everything thanks to the full moon.

After walking for almost 6 hours and ending with an hour of ice-climbing to the summit, we finally reached our goal.
It was beautifull! With the sun rising at one end and a city full of twinkeling light at the other end!
But also very, very cold!!

So after resting for a couple of minutes on the summit we started our way back.
At noonish we reached our base camp, and after a shower we drove back to La Paz, where we could celebrate our achievment!

After La Paz I went to Uyuni to take a tour over the salt flats there.
This is an old lake, that now is used to gain salt. Approx 12000m2 of empty whiteness: impressive!
Also because of the pure withness, there is no indication of depth, so you can take nice pictures :) with yourself diving into a bottle of bacardi for example :)

So that's all for now, keep up the good work, I'll do the same!
un abrazo para todos,
Andries,x
